Our Story
Dairy farmers have always wanted to sell their own milk to local people through their own company, so in 2000 that is exactly what we did. Initially there were four members; now Calon Wen includes 25 organic family farms
Our farmers receive payment for the quality as well as the quantity of milk they produce, this means we never push our farmers towards high yielding systems.
What is Organic Farming?
Organic farming is an alternative agricultural system with practices that reduce pollution, conserve water, reduce soil erosion and increases soil fertility. Farming without pesticides is also better for many birds and animals as well as people who live close to farms. Our farmers believe in looking after the soil for future generations to come.
Organic farming means no factory farming! Cows housed all year round, with no access to fresh grass or pasture has now sadly become commonplace in intensive farming systems. Organic standards ensure that organic cows are out at pasture all summer long.
